"I can't remember it." "Cussing out is not against the law."

Employees of Pernod Richard Korea(PRK) groaned deeply when they heard the two sentences that Jean Touboul, the chief executive officer of Pernod Richard Korea who attended as a reference witness said to the Environment and Labor Committee in the National Assembly's audit and inspection of the state held on October 19. He was asked to answer the questions on the allegations of the company's union busting and abusive words with gapjil behaviors by one of his executives in sales.

PRK employees denounced his remarks to be "defined as a racial discrimination against Koreans if France is not a state that condones the abusive words and gapjil behaviors [by the executives at the workplace]." They expressed their feelings complaining that they "met with the PRK CEO to call for the resolution of the problems and even exposed the related facts to the press, but the company does not move to make an apology or remorse for their illegal and unfair behaviors."

Labor disputes hardly find a breakthrough at Pernod Richard Korea which is a Korean subsidiary of Pernod Richard, a French business group that produces and sells the globally renowned Scotch whisky brands like Ballantine and Chivas Regal. Despite the facts on PRK CEO's anti-union remarks and offensive gapjil behaviors by one of his executives exposed by the press and the parliamentary audit, the company sticks to a strategic policy of disregarding the labor union.

The company even filed civil and criminal lawsuits against the labor union's president for defamation and dissemination of false information, denying all allegations raised by the labor union. In response to the company's move, PRK employees suffered from the labor union withdrawal under the company's persuasion and coercion are now demanding to punish the "perpetrators" and began their fighting in court against the accused executive and the company.

In the meanwhile, Rep. Kim Hack-yong of the major opposition Liberty Korea Party requested the Ministry of Employment and Labor(MOEL)'s Seoul Regional Office to conduct a special labor inspection into Pernod Richard Korea in the parliamentary audit held on October 19, and the MOEL Seoul Regional Office had implemented a comprehensive labor inspection on the allegations of unfair practices and sexual harassment and offensive gapjil behaviors against Pernod Richard Korea for 4 days from October 23 to 26.
